Florida Custom ArcGIS Classes Offered by GIS Services

GIS Services Brings the Training to You - Structured to Your Requirements

Classes can be held where you want them, when you need them, and custom tailored to your requirements at your location.

ModelBuilder (2 days)

In this hands-on short course, students will be introduced to the Geoprocessing environment in ArcGIS. Participants will learn how to create, share, and modify models for analysis and streamlining processing tasks. The focus of the course is to provide an introduction to the Geoprocessing environment in ArcGIS using the ArcGIS ModelBuilder with hands on exercises. This course is for data managers and analysts who have an understanding of the ArcGIS desktop applications and are ready to make use of the Geoprocessing environment in ArcGIS. New and existing data managers interested in migrating to the Geodatabase environment can benefit from taking this course also.

For many users, there are analysis tasks that need to be completed more than once. The ESRI ModelBuilder interface provides a way to graphically model all of the tasks that need to be completed. The resulting geoprocessing models can include tools, scripts, and the data. Whether you are in public works estimating annual street repair costs, emergency services modeling to route vehicles, or biologists estimating wildlife populations, this class is for you.

This class will review the basics of ModelBuilder data-flow diagrams and the tools used to create them.

Introduction to ArcObjects 9x Using VBA (3 days)

Introduction to ArcObjects 9x Using VBA is an introductory class for ESRI’s Version 9 software and its customization environment. The class will explore the VBA development environment and ArcGIS’s customization dialog in order to provide users with useful knowledge for developing customizations for ArcGIS. Day one introduces users to object-oriented programming and Visual Basic for Applications, VBA. We will talk about the Component Object Model (COM), visual basic code structures, useful functions and statements. Day two will focus on ArcObjects, ESRI’s object model, on which all your customizations will be based. We will spend the day reading the object model diagrams and creating custom code in VBA for ArcGIS. Day three will give us an opportunity to apply our knowledge of COM, ArcObjects and VBA to real-world customizations. Including the Visual Basic (VBA) Editor, customize dialog box, and online help resources. Upon finishing the course, participants will have plenty of sample code from which they can build their own applications.

This course is for those who work with ArcGIS on a technical level but may be new to programming with VBA. It is ideal for users who want to increase productivity by extending ArcGIS applications and for developers who want to create custom applications using VBA. Participants must have a working knowledge of ArcMap and ArcCatalog.

Topology in the Geodatabase (2 days)

In this course, students will be introduced to Topology in the current ArcGIS Geodatabase environment. Local data will be used for the course. Participants learn how to create, use, edit and manage spatial and attribute data stored in the Geodatabase. Data loading, topology rule creation, and maintaining data integrity through spatial and attribute validation will be covered. Participants are encouraged to bring their local data, if possible.

This course is for spatial data managers and analyst who have an understanding of the ArcGIS desktop applications (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox) and are ready to make use of the Geodatabase environment. New and existing data managers interested in migrating to the Geodatabase environment can benefit from taking this course. Registrants should have taken introduction to ArcGIS II (for ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo), or have equivalent knowledge. Attendees should be familiar with of ArcMap and ArcCatalog.
