Map of Florida's Confirmed Unprovoked Shark Attacks

The Florida Museum of Natural History's Ichthyology Department has recently mapped the latest data from their International Shark Attack File. The data contains approximately 2,700 individual investigations of shark attacks world-wide.

The data specifically for Florida indicates that there were 577 unprovoked shark attacks from 1882 - 2007 with 13 of them being fatal.

It appears that Cedar Key, FL may be the safest place in the state to go for a dip in the ocean. If there is a suggestion box for a new town slogan, please feel free to submit the idea.
