Peoples Gas selects UAI to implement UtilityCenter® GIS solution throughout the state of Florida

UAI, a leading provider of cutting-edge GIS-based information technology solutions, announced today that it has been selected by Peoples Gas, Florida’s largest natural gas provider to implement its UtilityCenter® utility operations solution throughout the company’s 15 divisions throughout Florida.

UAI had previously implemented UtilityCenter® in Peoples Gas’ Orlando and Lakeland Divisions. Joe Johnson, UAI’s VP of Utility Sales, said the success of those projects were key factors in the decision by Peoples Gas to choose UAI for system-wide expansion of the implementation.

“UAI is tremendously honored by the faith Peoples Gas has shown in selecting us for this opportunity,” said Johnson. “We have thoroughly enjoyed our interaction with Peoples Gas during the implementation of UtilityCenter® at Orlando and Lakeland, and are excited about continuing this relationship throughout the remainder of the company’s service area.”

Peoples Gas serves more than 300,000 commercial, industrial and residential customers in most of Florida’s major metropolitan areas, including Lakeland, Orlando, Eustis, Daytona, Avon Park, Jacksonville, Panama City, Ocala, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Ft. Myers, Miami, Ft Lauderdale and Jupiter.

UAI will deliver its entire suite of UtilityCenter® modules including: uaField™ for field engineering and editing of the gas system network model; e-Dispatch™ powered by ESRI’s ArcGIS Server for web-based deployment & analysis of natural gas related trouble calls, dispatch of service crews and management of restoration activities; uaView™ for field map view, query and redlining capabilities; uaMaintenance™ for computerized maintenance management of gas facilities; uaFM™ powered by ESRI’s ArcGIS for GIS based facility management; and uaGPS™ for GPS collection of natural gas related features directly into GIS using UtilityCenter®.

In addition, Peoples Gas will implement UAI’s uaExecutiveDashboard™, which provides managers with electronic system status boards containing updated, current critical data necessary for daily business decision-making, and e-Reports™, a Web-based reporting tool providing generation of ad hoc and custom reports for electronic dissemination among departments.

UtilityCenter® will be integrated with the following Peoples Gas systems: Mainframe Customer Information System; Materials Management System; Gas Flow Modeling System; Leak Information and Damage Reporting System; SCADA; Accounting System; Service Order Reporting and Tracking System and Document Management System.

The 18-month project will involve conversion of existing Microstation data to ESRI/UAI format, integration of GIS data from various local agencies in 29 Florida counties’ and parcel-based geo-coding of existing customer locations. Following conversion, UtilityCenter® and its associated modules will be installed for use by personnel ranging from front-office clerks to management to field service personnel.

“This is a truly comprehensive utility operations solution,” said Jeff Smith, UAI’s Director of Business Development for Gas & Water Utilities. “This project will be demonstrative of how GIS-based workflow information technology can vastly improve the efficiency of daily operations.”

UAI’s UtilityCenter® solution is currently in place at more than 100 electric, gas and water/wastewater utilities throughout the United States.
