FDOT Publishes "Street View"

Tired of waiting for the Immersive Media truck to drive your neighborhood so Google can include your county in Street View? The Florida Department of Transportation has recently published their own video log of state roads within all sixty-seven counties in Florida.

Just use the "Search" feature on FDOT's Video Log Viewer Application to select a County, Roadway, Travel Direction, Beginning & Ending Mile Point, and View.

The "right view" option allows users to clearly see what is located on properties on the side of the road. A great application for those in the engineering/surveying field to see landmark locations, fire hydrants, catch basins, signage, curb cuts, etc. without having to leave the office. Granted it is not a full 360 degree view, however the "Direction" option above the viewer allows users to select a different view (North, South, East, or West).

Another key feature is that the application allows you to select a playback speed (upto 4 frames per second) without having to continuously click forward to move the frame view..... thus it's like watching a movie versus a frame-by-frame drive. In addition, a spot check of of various counties revealed that the videos were filmed fairly recently....from December 2006 through July 2007.
