The City of Oviedo, FL currently has a job opening for a GIS Coordinator position.
The GIS Coordinator performs professional and technical work involving the development, management and maintenance of the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Co-ordinates the centralization of geographic information to support all system end users in their department functions. Provides overall management for all GIS and remote sensing projects. Supervision is exercised over GIS Interns. Work is performed under the general direction of the Information Technology Director, but incumbent will exercise final responsibility for major administrative functions exercising a considerable amount of independent judgment.
State-of-the-art knowledge of geographic information systems and software, and thorough knowledge of principles of database information systems management; ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data and/or information using established criteria, to include exercise of discretion in determining actual or probable consequences, and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives; ability to function in a supervisory/ managerial capacity for a group of workers, to include the ability to make decisions on procedural and technical levels; ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical manner; ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, design, and/or advisory data and information; ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution; ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the direction, control and planning of an entire program or set of programs.
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Geography, Planning, Engineering or a related field, supplemented by two (2) years experience developing/supporting GIS, direct GIS Project management experience and experience with ESRI software (ArcView, ArcInfo, SDE and/or MapObjects). Experience with government GIS applications, especially in such business areas such as planning, public utilities, transportation, police, fire, EMS, and tax parcel creation and maintenance preferred. Active participation in professional GIS, mapping, and/or surveying organizations and activities desired. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
