Mapping Beach Conditions in Southwest Florida

The Environmental Health Program of the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota has created a Google Mash-Up for near real-time beach conditions in Sarasota, Manatee, Pinellas, Lee, and Collier Counties.

The mapping application provides several types of information during red tide events, including: "whether dead fish are present, whether there is respiratory irritation among beach goers, what the water color is, the wind direction and what flags are currently flying at the beaches (for lifeguard-monitored beaches)".

Also see what new technology the Mote Marine Laboratory is using to track red tide.
