Zillow (Sort of) Publishes Florida Neighborhood Boundary Shapefiles

I heard a few weeks back that Zillow was publishing neighborhood boundary shapefiles to be released under the Creative Commons License. As such, the data would be free for anyone to redistribute as long as users attributed Zillow as the original data source.

I have finally had a brief moment to download the data and analyze it myself. I am not down playing the admirable effort of a private company putting GIS data into the public's hands but let's just say that a shapefile layer named "Florida Neighborhood Boundaries" should include more than 15% of the counties within the state.

Hopefully Zillow will continue to release updates with a wider Florida coverage area, as of now the data only incorporates ten counties within the following cities and number of neighborhoods in each county:

Broward / Miami (69)

Collier / Naples (10)

Duval / Jacksonville (197)

Hillsborough / Tampa (73)

Miami-Dade / Miami (14)

Orange / Orlando (116)

Palm Beach / West Palm Beach (34)

Pinellas / Clearwater & St. Petersburg (91)

Polk / Lakeland (45)

Sarasota / Sarasota (40)
