Geo-Visus Inc. Awarded Contract by the Government of Jamaica
Geo-Visus Inc., in partnership with GeoNet Technology Services Inc. (GeoNet), has been awarded a contract by the Government of Jamaica, to provide GIS Consulting Services to be used in support of the Ministry of Transport & Works (MTW) Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS). Deliverables include an Enterprise Geodatabase, the roll-out of ESRI’s ArcGIS Server and preliminary training and support for MTW’s IT and GIS Staff.
“The aim of developing an EGIS System at the MTW is to provide better awareness, quantification, and assessment of transportation problems, while assisting policy makers and planners in making informed, effective decisions. It is envisioned that the system will serve the MTW as a whole and other interest groups,” says Dr. Alwin Hales, Permanent Secretary.

The MTW’s primary responsibility is Jamaica’s land, marine and air transport as well as the main road network. The MTW has regulatory responsibility for the safety of a 15,394 km road network; 800 bridges; 330 km of rail track; large fleets of public passenger buses; two international airports; four domestic aerodromes; ten specialized seaports and three public deep-water ports.
